Internet 2

In 2002 we received funding from the National Science Foundation for the connection of UTHSCSA and UTSA to the Internet 2. This Grant provides for a shared link to the Austin Abilene Network point of presence for the Southwest Research Institute, the University of Texas at San Antonio and the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. Internet 2 is a synonym for the Abilene network, a high speed digital network with a minimum bandwidth of 45 Mbps. This network is capable of supporting large bandwidth applications such as digital audio and video applications, multicasting, shared databases, remote visualization, remote instrument sharing, virtual conferences, seminars, workshops and classes.

For UTHSCSA faculty, students and staff we have set up an Access Grid Node that enables users to digitally communicate with remote sites. For inquiries, please contact Borries Demeler,
